On the day of your child's birthday arrange to be off work or available for some 1 on 1 time with that child and let him or her choose the activities of the day.
When siblings are arguing over a toy, the sibling that wants the toy can call "2 minutes", and the other sibling must then turn the toy over in 2 minutes to share.
When siblings fight, instead of making them apologize to each other, have them write a note of apology. They have to use more thought that way! On the same note, we as parents should learn to apologize to our kids when we wrong them or exhibit wrong behavior in front of them. Not only will we keep the doors of communication open, we will also teach them how to apologize!
Get down on your child's level and view situations from their perspective. This also works for child proofing the house! Focus on the positive things in your children, praise them for the things they do right more often that correcting the wrong. It boosts self-esteem and makes them want to behave positively.
Write love notes to your child daily. You would be surprised what it will do for them! Drop them in a lunch bow, stick them on the fridge, or even tape them to the television, Nintendo, Playstaion, Computer, or Webtv!!
